It started with me having “nothing to wear” in a closet packed full of clothes.
For five years, my closet hasn’t had a good decluttering. That’s because I became a mom, and my priority shifted to my newborn. Then raising my child.
Now that he’s older, I finally had the chance to take a look at my closet and clear it out.

I did the Marie Kondo method of only keeping what sparked joy. And it worked!
I kept only the clothes that sparked joy, that still fit, that I need. I can now reach into my closet with my eyes closed, and no matter what I grab, I know that it will be:
- Something that I love.
- Something that fits me well.
- Something that reflects who I am today.
The clothing that was too old got thrown out. The good pieces (and there were many!) were donated yesterday.
The second section of the decluttering process was my body sprays and makeup.

After the death of my stepfather, my grieving mind thought it would be a great idea to find my “signature scent.” So I bought a ton of Bodycology and a few Bath & Body Works body sprays/lotions.
It was fun trying out different scents, and I’m keeping my favorites, but ultimately, I bought too many.
Especially since Bodycology is so cheap, but such great quality! (I love Resting Beach Face, by the way. That’s such a fresh scent!).
I found a thrift store nearby with a good cause (NOT Goodwill…) and they accept body sprays and makeup.
The makeup I’m donating are eyeshadow palettes that I bought when I was a new mom. They are fun shades, but not my style.

Since they were unused (I swiped a clean brush on only two of the colors, then decided they weren’t for me), they were too good to just throw away. So, I’m happy that they take these palettes, and will be donating them today! :-]
How I Got Over The Feeling of Wasting Money
I know some people don’t like to donate perfectly good items, because it makes them feel like it’s a waste of money ~ I have friends who think that way.
But… I already used the money. It’s not coming back.
The point of stopping wasting money is before I buy things, not after.
And, when it comes to the clothes, I already got my money’s worth. Whether it was wearing the item a few times, or realizing it wasn’t my style, I learned or gained something from my purchase.

And now, someone else can enjoy the items, for a low price at a thrift store that uses the proceeds to help children in need.
That is not a waste :-]
Take care,
Dear Quiet
