I no longer watch debates online. At the risk of sounding haughty, modern-day debates come off as quite… stupid.
Plain old stupid.
It seems that people are no longer debating the complex topics of life. A debate these days often goes something like this:
“A pregnant woman has a total of 8 limbs, and is therefore, an arachnid.”
Sure, that was a joke… but it’s not far from the truth! x-]
One of the dumbest things I often hear in debates is this: “There’s too many to name.”
Oh, really?
Someone comes up to the microphone (or during an interview, podcast, etc.) and they’re asked about their grievances.
“What do you dislike about this person?” “Which policies do you disagree with?” “What do you believe needs to change in your city?”
And the reply?
“There’s too many to name.”
AND THEY GO ON TO NAME ZERO!! x-]
The person is hyper-emotional, self-assured, demanding you believe what they believe, and when asked for more information… there’s just too many to name.
Having “too many” of anything should make it easier to name one (several, actually), not harder!
For instance, there are 195 countries in the world. That could be “too many.” It certainly is a lot.
Could you name one country?
Of course you could name one! You probably just thought of several before deciding on which one you’d name.
So yeah.
Between the lame topics being debated (what is a finger?) and the constant “There’s too many to name,” I just don’t watch debates anymore.
They turn my brain to mush.
